On Monday 20 May, two Cultural Comms clients came together to present a major art show focused on contemporary artists of Native American descent.
New Myth..., exhibited by The Arts Club in London, features 12 works from six American artists of indigenous backgrounds - highlighting the significant shift in contemporary art occurring across museums, biennales, major galleries and in academia today. The artworks themselves were stored, transported and hung by fine art shippers, Gander & White, who were responsible for transforming the walls of The Arts Club’s first floor drawing room and ante rooms into an inspiring gallery.
The artists featured in this exhibition – Cannupa Hanska Luger, Esteban Cabeza de Baca, Gisela McDaniel, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, Julie Buffalohead, and Mario Martinez – balance personal and familial histories with contemporary artistic, societal, and political concerns, forging practices that address our constantly shifting present.
Collectively, these artists have exhibited at renowned institutions worldwide – such as the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf in Germany; Los Angeles County Museum of Art in California; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in Massachusetts; and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, and Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
“As a beacon of cultural enrichment, we’re delighted to champion the voices and works of an amazing group of North American artists through our arts programme. This exhibition is a testament to our commitment to making the Club a creative hub for diverse talent and a space for ideas of new generations to thrive."
Meher Waney, Director of Membership & Business Development at The Arts Club
Alongside New Myth, visitors will also be able to view The Arts Club’s permanent art collection, which is drawn from around the world and spans several decades – from George Condo to Albert Oehlen and Tomas Saraceno – the collection demonstrates cutting-edge contemporary practices, shifting ideas between generations, as well as the enduring concerns in art and humanity that transcend the ages in our rapidly changing world.
"We are thrilled to be involved in this ground-breaking exhibition featuring such a diverse group of artists and hope this is the beginning of a long-lasting partnership with The Art 's Club."
Alexander Bradford, Global Business Development and Sustainability Manager, Gander & White
